Brotha, I have to differ with you on one point. I think the appointment of Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff will serve to keep ultra-left-wing Democrats in check. Obama knows that he must be moderate in order to make any real progress. He cannot afford to have Nancy Pelosi hijack his presidency.

The subprime debacle was caused by Phil Gramm. You know, the one that called Americans whiners and had to subsequently resign from the McCain campaign because of it; and his tie-in to the “real reasons for the subprime mess.
His legislation (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act) in 1999 essentially repealed a law that had been in place since 1933 (The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933). The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 was designed to control speculation (THE MAJOR REASONS THAT THE GAS PRICES SKY ROCKETED DURING THE PAST 6 YEARS IS DUE TO THE REPEAL OF THE GLASS-STEAGALL ACT AND SPECULATORS AFFECTS ON THE COSTS OF A BARREL OF OIL).
This repeal (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act) was followed by another piece of Republican Legislation called The Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 or CFMA (H.R. 5660 and S.3283). This act repealed the Shad-Johnson jurisdictional accord which banned single stock futures in 1982. The CFMA also provided a ban on the government regulation of futures contracts.
Both of these Acts were signed into law by Bill Clinton when congress was controlled by the GOP; and both bills passed both the Senate and the House with veto proof margins brought forth by the Republicans “Contract to Bankrupt, I mean with America”.
While he had no choice but to sign the bills, one of the reasons I myself have never been a big fan of Bill Clinton (thus making it easy not to support Billary for 2008) was his history of selling out Democrat principles (the man was more conservative then George Bush and you (C.Lancop) put together when it came to legislation passed under his Presidency).

The blaming the subprime mess on the Community re-investment Act works for Fox News suedo-journalist types, but someone who would go out on a limb and try to qualify their positions on “what caused the suprime mess” would surely be smart enough to know that giving loans to minorities who otherwise could not afford them could not in itself cause the near collapse of the entire financial world.
